Telemedicine Grant

Overv​iew

The Medical Telecommunica​tions Equipment Program is a two-year grant program under the Universal Service Fund that enables "Non-profit medical clinics" or "Public health agencies" to apply for funding to purchase m​edical telecommunications equipment (Wis. Admin. Code § PSC 160.115). 

On a fiscal year basis, up to $500,000 may be available to purchase medical telecommunications equipment that will promote technologically advanced medical services, and/or enhance access to medical care in rural or underserved areas of the state, or to underserved populations or to persons with disabilities.

Who is eligible to apply

Applicant must be either:

  • A "Nonprofit medical clinic," including certain hospitals that are governed by a board of directors, and that serve federally designated Health Professional Shortage Areas (HPSA), or Medically underserved populations (as defined in 42 USC 254e (a) (1)  - see HPSA MAPS), and that serves all patients regardless of
    health-insurance status, or serves uninsured patients using an income-base sliding fee scale.
  • Or a "Public health agency," including the Wisconsin Department of Health Services, or any local health departments as defined in Wis. Stat. § 250.01(4)​, or a Tribal health care facility or program as defined in 25 USC § 450f et seq.
