Lakeshore Lateral Project Information

Project Summary
  • Overview: WEGO proposes to install approximately 49 miles of 24-inch steel transmission main in the towns of Brighton, Burlington, Dover, East Troy, La Grange, Lafayette, Lyons, Paris, Sugar Creek, Spring Prairie, Troy, and Yorkville and the villages of East Troy and Rochester and the cities of Burlington and Elkhorn, in Kenosha, Racine, and Walworth Counties. This project will be called the “Lakeshore Lateral Project” or “LLP”. The proposed project will be described as having two potential routes, “Route A” and “Route B”.

  • Applicant stated need: to increase the quantity and reliability of natural gas service, both on a peak day and annually, in southeastern Wisconsin given projected load growth, planned distribution facility modifications, and pipeline capacity alternatives serving southern Wisconsin.

  • Estimated cost: $185.967 million for Route A and $191.826 million for Route B.

  • Project Location: the towns of Brighton, Burlington, Dover, East Troy, La Grange, Lafayette, Lyons, Paris, Sugar Creek, Spring Prairie, Troy, and Yorkville and the villages of East Troy and Rochester and the cities of Burlington and Elkhorn, in Kenosha, Racine, and Walworth Counties (see map).

  • Proposed schedule: scheduled for the winter of 2020, with completion in November 2021.

Statutory Review
  • This is a Type II action under Wis. Admin. Code § PSC 4.10(2), but due to its length and various sensitive resources present along the proposed routes, it is being treated as a Type I project under Wis. Admin. Code § PSC 4.10(1). Therefore, an Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) will be prepared as specified under the Wisconsin Environmental Policy Act Wis. Stats. § 1.11.
