 Badger Hollow Project Information

Project Summary
  • On June 5, 2018, Badger Hollow Solar Farm LLC, an affiliate of Invenergy LLC, submitted an application to the Public Service Commission of Wisconsin for a Certificate of Public Convenience and Necessity (CPCN) for the construction of a photovoltaic (PV) solar energy generating facility and associated systems totaling up to 300 megawatts (MW) in Iowa County.

  • Applicant stated need and proposed cost: because this project is considered a wholesale merchant plant as defined and described in Wis. Stats. § 196.491 , the Commission is not required to consider project cost, need, or engineering aspects of the proposal.

  • Project Location (see map): The proposed project is located in western Iowa County, Wisconsin adjacent to the villages of Montfort and Cobb; the majority of which would be directly south of U.S. Highway 18, approximately 1,100 acres extend north of U.S. Highway 18, with the entirety of the project being east of State Highway 80, which is the county line with Grant County. The proposed Project boundary includes properties in Mifflin, Eden, and Linden townships, and a small area at the south end of the village of Cobb.

  • If approved, the project will be built on approximately 3,500 acres of leased land within an approximately 10,700-acre project area boundary (16.7 square miles).

    • Proposed schedule for the Badger Hollow Solar Project:
    • 2017-2019, development activities include solar resource assessment, environmental studies, interconnection studies, and permitting.

Statutory Review
  • This project is being treated as a Type 2 action under Wis. Admin. Code § PSC 4.10(2). An environmental assessment will be prepared to determine whether an environmental impact statement is necessary under Wis. Stats. § 1.11.
