Area Code Relief - 715/534 Area Code Overlay Implementation Schedule
On December 10, 2008, NANPA conducted the Initial Implementation Meeting for the 715/534 overlay.
In compliance with the Commission’s Final Decision , Wisconsin’s telecommunications industry reached consensus on a schedule
to implement the 534 area code, as described in NANPA’s Planning Letter 384.

During the permissive dialing period, customers are encouraged to begin using 10-digit dialing to place all local calls (the 3-digit area code + the 7-digit local number). However, local calls will still complete if a caller dials only the 7-digit number. |

Once mandatory 10-digit dialing begins, callers must use the 3-digit area code and the 7-digit number for all local calls. Calls incorrectly dialed will reach a recording indicating that it is necessary to dial the area code and the 7-digit telephone number. |
